Nylon is markedly stronger than polyester but far more sensitive to UV — sunlight is what yellows and weakens it.
How to wash nylon

Use a gentle, mesh bag for fine items cycle and mild, no bleach. It is the standard fibre for outerwear shells because of its tear strength, and those shells usually need reproofing rather than replacing.
Drying and ironing
Dry line dry in shade. For ironing: cool or not at all.
Chlorine destroys nylon, which is why nylon swimwear disintegrates in a pool while polyester swimwear does not.
How long it should last
Five to fifteen years for outerwear, far less for hosiery.
